More About Kenny

A place for everyone regardless of your age, shape, size or ability.

For the next decade I dipped in and out of hill running, mountain marathons, adventure races, triathlon and then 2009 I trained specifically for duathlon and won the British age group champs in Edinburgh.

The following year the world duathlon champs were on the Edinburgh course again so I committed 100% to it and it all paid off on the day to claim the world 45/50year old title.

Latterly I've gone full circle and back onto the road race wagon where I've claimed the Scottish vets title a few times and compete in masters stage race in Majorca where I've had the yellow jersey and a stage win.

To put something back into the sport that's given so much to me I hold training sessions locally in some closed circuit areas where we can help some of the youngsters and seniors who are looking to improve on areas that I can advise.

Maggie's Highland Cycle 500

Recently I have just co-organised a charity cycle for Maggie's Highland.

During September 2021 we took to the roads around Aviemore to cycle 500 miles in 5 days. The 2 years of planning with Covid challenges, saw 40 riders supported by Wilderness Scotland, raise a staggering £400,000.

Team Maggie's

2022 offered some new opportunities with some personal challenges to fill the year nicely. In January we stripped the front shop and set up some new lighting to create a less cluttered showroom with lots of positive customer feedback.

May brought the first Leblanq trip of the year to Isle of Wight, special guest was sir Chris Hoy, it was super to work alongside Chris again, he’s a really genuine humble guy and a pleasure to be in his company. A week later was the first Loch Ness 360 gravel race. I chose to use my new Trek SLR checkpoint which is so light, lively and rides like a dream.

This was closely followed by the Leblanq Dunskey in Scotland which I designed the routes for the 3 days ranging from 25 miles to over 100 miles depending on the client's ability, Sir Chris was the special guest here also alongside ex Olympic champion Jason Quelly.

August brought back the Black Isle show after being postponed for 2 years, this is where Julian, myself and a small team do our stint for 2 days parking up the cars for the show with proceeds going to a local charity.

September and October was a busy period, the badger divide which is a 210 mile off road ride from Inverness to Glasgow was always on my radar, so a couple of months back Jenny Graham and myself decided to give it a go together, the mileage was never going to be a problem for her and I just wanted to see how my body would cope with the lack of sleep and the sheer volume of hours in one go.

Day 1 we left at 4am and arrived in our tin hut at 2.30am 22.5hrs later covering 160 of the miles. It would be fair to say we were ready for food and sleep by then, unfortunately our dehydrated meal choice that required boiling water was so bad that neither of us could stomach it, another cereal bar followed by 3 hrs sleep with the mice and up we got to complete the remaining 70+ miles into Glasgow's Kelvingrove art gallery.

One week later I was flying out to Alesund in Norway for a beautiful clear week of weather with Leblanq again, with a midway stop in the fjords at Oye. This was my first trip to Norway and it’s fair to say it’s stunning especially with the weather we blagged. The guests for this trip were from the Rapha Cycling Club and were mostly Americans who scooped the highly sought after spots.

The final trip away created a chance for a new adventure of driving from London to Ibiza with my mechanic pal Phil with the Leblanq kit required for the 4 day trip in the sun for 120 rider guests, this was a new level for us to look after and made for an intense weekend. Highlights include meeting and helping Pete Tong with his bike plus some work on Mark Cavendish and Matt Stephens bikes.
